OLD MEN KNOW EVERYTHING

fourteen haiku

I.

I'm 87.

I am surely into men.

I'm also a man.

II.

I am 25.

I am trapped in this body.

I am a woman.

III.

I am older too.

I read Harper's Magazine

and I love Chomsky.

IV.

Brahms is my husband.

But, I'm having an affair....

.....with Alfred Schnittke.

V.

People, at my age,

are looking in the wrong place.

Just to be honest.

VI.

Not to judge... of course.

But, the millennial flock?

Fixed to media.

VII.

Sites keep one detached

from responsibility

and the "face-to-face."

VIII.

Flock members 'other'

and keep silent about death.

Lest, he takes one close.

IX.

Not to judge... of course.

But its unrealistic,

this reality.

X.

Unskilled, forgetful.

What about the simple things?

Coffee with sunrise.

XI.

The true kind of friends.

Constructing scrap quilts in sync.

People face-to-face.

XII.

The Milky Way stretch...

tells me beauty face-to-face.

Without words; chanting.

XIII.

Behind swanky shades.

Face to meet a disaster!

Grounds for a protest.

XIV.

As nonpartisan,

I am surely not confused.

I'm too old for that.
