MIRROR & THE BEAST

a poem for beauty

· SERIOUS

I saw glimpses of darkness
Flashes; waves of hot, ugly tar stewing
I thought it was them
My enemies
Trying to suffocate me
But I had no enemies
I had myself

I looked in the mirror
I went there
To that dark place
Followed it deep
Within myself

I saw the beast resting there
The space was vast, empty
Though appalled
I greeted the beast
Visited for a while

Then
The ancient particles
Met my eyes
Lit up the space
The beast was me
And in the light
Reflected back

And I knew beauty
In seeing those stars
That saw me
As them.
